Nearly two years after the Coalition Government was formed, Liberty\u2019s
\nDirector, Shami Chakrabarti explores the impact on rights and freedoms in
\nGreat Britain.<\/p>\n
The Common Values of Dignity, equal treatment and fairness are fundamental
\nprinciples that underpin the British definition of civil liberties but what
\nhas proved to be the Government\u2019s approach to these values? <\/p>\n
From a promising start with the repeal of ID cards legislation to the
\ndisappointing continuation of the odious control order regime, the
\nGovernment\u2019s record is certainly mixed. But with the announcement that
\nBritain\u2019s human rights framework is to be reviewed by a Commission on a
\nBritish Bill of Rights, we now face the greatest threat to our human rights
\nprotection in the lifetime of the Human Rights Act.<\/p>\n
What might the future hold for Common Values in Coalition Britain?<\/p>\n
