Sizewell is the proposed site for 2 new nuclear reactors as well as a dry storage dump. We have had a weekend\u00a0camp there in April for the last four years in order to commemorate the disaster at Chernobyl and to show our opposition to new nuclear power. This year the camp will run from April 20th<\/sup> to 22nd<\/sup> The demonstration takes place on Saturday the 21st at the gates of the power station.Emma Bateman Writes: I believe it is particularly important to show our opposition to nuclear power at Sizewell this year because plans for Sizewell C and D reactors are being drawn up right now. Last week 1000 people demonstrated at the Hinckley power station in Somerset, Caroline Lucas among them. Whilst we don\u2019t expect to get anywhere near that number, we would like to have a sizeable peaceful demonstration. Sizewell power station is owned by EDF and is in an area of outstanding natural beauty right on the edge of the beach, and is situated in\u00a0a large flood plain.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The location of our\u00a0camp will be on\u00a0the beach just yards from the power station. One of the reasons we have the camp there is so that we can interact with local people (there are many dog walkers), and holiday makers. We hand out information and discuss the issues with whoever wants to participate. We also have workshops centring on nuclear power and energy.\u00a0 Because the camp is in an area where many local people come to enjoy the beach, we discourage loud music and heavy drinking because we want to engage with the locals, not alienate them.

A coach is being organised to bring people to the demonstration from London. And we are hoping for a good local turnout as well, hence this email.\u00a0 Ron Bailey has agreed to speak at the demonstration. He is one of the authors of the corruption of governance report which outlines how Parliament was mislead over nuclear power.
