IRAQ.
\nIt is now around 10 years since the US and Britain went to war in the
\ndisastrous attack on Iraq, allegedly for weapons of mass destruction that
\nwere never found.<\/p>\n
AFGHANISTAN.
\nThe war and occupation in Afghanistan has lasted for an even longer
\nperiod, with none of the arguments for going to war \u2013 security, denying an
\nincubating space for terrorism, establishing women\u2019s rights, exporting
\ndemocracy \u2013 having\u00a0 been realized.<\/p>\n
NOW MALI
\nBUT still the West intervenes (disastrously) in the Middle East and
\nAfrica, the latest being our support for\u00a0 the French in\u00a0 Mali.<\/p>\n
MEANWHILE Obama continues each week to approve a kill-list of targets for
\nunmanned lethal drone attacks. Among the deaths from drones are an
\nestimated 176 children. Neither has he shut down Guantanamo Bay as he
\npromised.<\/p>\n
So we are entitled to ask why, when the finance and resources in both
\ncountries, could be spent in so many more worthy ways, do they persist in
\nengaging in such military adventures? In this meeting we shall explore the
\nreal causes of these conflicts.<\/p>\n
