Commemorate Nakba Day and Continue Work for Palestinian Rights<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n

Wednesday, May 15 marks 65 years since the Nakba\"\" (Catastrophe)<\/strong>: the dispossession, forced exile, and ethnic cleansing of 750,000 Palestinians from their land before and during the creation of the State of Israel in 1948. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sixty-five years later, Palestinians still face an ongoing Nakba<\/strong> as\u00a0Israel continues to deny the right of return of displaced Palestinians and to illegally colonize Palestinian lands. Palestinians in <\/span>the West Bank and Gaza Strip have now lived under a brutal Israeli military occupation for nearly 46 years, and Palestinians in Israel live under apartheid- more than 50 laws<\/a> enshrine their status as second-class citizens based on their ethnic and religious identity. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Below you will find resources and ideas about what you can do to commemorate and remember the Nakba<\/strong> over the next few weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Zochrot<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, which aims to promote awareness of the Nakba in Israel, has put together an activity creating a large-\"\"scale\u00a0map of the Palestinian villages destroyed by Israel. Participants are given cards that represent each of the villages destroyed, which are then returned to their correct location on a map. Participants can personalize their cards or decorate the map using chalk, colored stones, stickers, ribbons, etc. Find instructions, pictures, and other ideas here<\/strong><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

There are events happening in DC<\/strong><\/a>, Chicago<\/strong><\/a>, Denver<\/strong><\/a>, Boston<\/strong><\/a>, Philadelphia<\/strong><\/a>, and\u00a0Seattle<\/a><\/strong>.
