Please also remember one minute’s silence 11am Monday 11th wherever you are<\/div>\n

WHITE POPPIES <\/span><\/span>for a Culture that makes<\/span><\/span><\/span> PEACE <\/span><\/span>achievable<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\n<\/span><\/strong>A member of the <\/span><\/span>No More War Movement<\/span><\/a> suggested that the British Legion should be asked to imprint ‘<\/strong><\/span><\/span>No More War<\/span><\/strong><\/span>‘<\/span><\/strong><\/span> in the centre of the red poppies instead of \u2018Haig Fund\u2019 and failing this pacifists should make their own flowers.<\/span><\/span>
\nThe <\/span><\/span><\/span>Co-operative Women’s Guild<\/span><\/a> produced the first white poppies to be worn on Armistice Day in 1933 (later called Remembrance Day). The Guild stressed that the white poppy was not intended as an insult to the sons, husbands, brothers, and lovers <\/span>who died in the First World War \u2013 but a challenge to the continuing drive to war. White poppies have since been taken on by the Peace Pledge Union, as the main funding for its peace research and education work.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
