Supporting Aboriginal Peacemaking

Posted on | March 25, 2011 | No Comments

Fri, April 1st, 7pm, Friends Meeting House

Speaker: Peter Haresnape

How are Aboriginal Communities in Canada and around the world dealing with widespread pollution and exploitation of their land without community consent? What is the role of international observers and instruments like the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples? What are the implications of the long and painful history between European settlers, the Christian Church, and Aboriginal peoples across Turtle Island (North America)?

You are invited to hear Peter Haresnape, full-time member of the Aboriginal Justice Team speaking about his experiences in Canada working with native communities and organisations.

Peter joined Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT), an international ecumenical violence-reduction and human-rights organisation, in 2010. CPT works in partnership with peacemakers affected by conflict, war and oppression.
