Dear Friends
Its that time again! It is time for a very interesting talk on Saturday 17th March at 11oc am in the Cube at the Forum. The title of the talk will be “Feeding the World in the 21st Century – the Challenges Facing the UN World Food Programme (WFP)”
The UN WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. Each year, on average, the WFP feeds more than 90 million people in over 70 countries.
The talk will be given by Caroline Hurford, head of the World Food Programme in the UK. Caroline joined the WFP at its headquarters in Rome in 2002. Previously a Regional Information Delegate for the International Red Cross in Russia and East Africa, she first worked for the WFP in Nairobi. A graduate in Russian, Caroline spent seven years in Moscow and three years in Kenya prior to joining the WFP in Rome. Since taking up her London post, Caroline has had four missions to Africa including the world’s largest refugee camp in Dadaab during the recent Horn of Africa crisis.
We are very lucky to have her come and talk to us about the challenges faced by the World Food Programme in its efforts to feed the world in famines, droughts, climate change and natural disasters. The WFP is one of the UN’s most important and pro-active agencies. I hope that as many people as possible will be able to come to the talk.
best wishes,
Marguerite Finn
Vice Chair UNA Norwich and District Branch
