A talk about curent trends in forced displacement

Dear Friends,

I would like to tell you about our latest UNA talk on Friday 15 March at 1pm in the Friends Meeting House. Roland Schilling from the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) will talk about curent trends in forced displacement which are challenges for the UNHCR – with hundreds of thousands of people around the world becoming internally and externally displaced because of war and chaos. How does the UN Agency cope with this?  Do come along to the talk on Friday 15 March to find out.

Below is a short biographical note about Roland


Roland Schilling took up his post as UNHCR Representative in London in July 2009.  He arrived in the UK after four years in Ankara as the refugee agency’s Deputy Representative, where he oversaw refugee protection activities and supported the Turkish Government in establishing a national asylum system.  From 2002 – 2005 he served as Deputy Representative for UNHCR in Sri Lanka, where he managed field activities and re-integration support to internally displaced persons.  Following the tsunami disaster he coordinated the UN humanitarian work in the vital shelter sector.

Roland Schilling began his work with UNHCR in Hong Kong monitoring and advising the government on the status determination of Vietnamese boat people (1990 – 1991).  He also worked as a Protection Officer in Sana’a, Republic of Yemen (1995 – 1997) and opened UNHCR’s office in Chisinau, Moldova where he was posted from 1997 – 1998.

A Dutch national, Roland Schilling was born 1961 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany and educated at the Freie University in Berlin.  He holds an advanced degree in Political Science.  He is married and has two children.
