TTIP

Norwich Haymarket 30th August 11am

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is the greatest threat to our democracy, our environment, workers’ rights, public services, food standards, consumer rights, animal welfare and privacy since the Second World War.  It is a free trade deal currently being negotiated in secret between the European Commission and the United States government.  Even elected politicians are not allowed to see all the negotiating documents.

It would mean that governments would have to pay compensation to multinational corporations if any law they pass affected corporate profits. So, for instance, we would not be able to renationalise the railways, utilities, or the NHS because their owners would sue for compensation. And regulations would have to be cut if they pose a barrier to trade.

You can find more information on it here http://www.wdm.org.uk/sites/default/files/TTIP%20briefing.pdf

The main problem with campaigning against the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is that hardly anyone has heard of it.  So people will be gathering in the Haymarket in the centre of Norwich on 30 August at 11am, as part of a national day of action organised by 38 degrees, to collect signatures on a petition, distribute leaflets and hold a banner protesting TTIP.

Will you be able to join us?  The more of us there are the more of an impact we can make.

Hope to see you on 30th August
