Dear Friends,
It is time again to circulate information about the forthcoming UNA talk in the Friends Meeting House at 1pm on Friday 17th June. This month our speaker will be Dr Wendy McMahon – Senior Lecturer in American Studies at UEA.
She will talk on Human Rights – specifically on Torture. The title of the talk is “Torture: What is it Good For?”. The talk will focus on the contemporary debate about whether or not torture can ever be justified in the name of national security and global peace. Dr McMahon will address the question of whether there is any place for torture in a liberal democracy as well as the relationship between torture, the law and American culture.
Do try and attend this topical and informative talk on Friday 17 June.
Best wishes,
Marguerite Finn
Vice Chair UNA (Norwich & District)
