Eid al Adha 1433 declared this Friday

Posted on | October 25, 2012 | No Comments

Eid al Adha the festival of the sacrifice and annual Hajj for 1433 AH declared for this Friday 26th October 2012

Dhul Hijjah is the last month of the Muslim year and the first 10 days are devoted to the Hajj when about two and a half million people gather from all round the world to live and enact the rites of Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Ismail (Ishamael) as well as his wife Hajar (Hagar).

Yawm al Arafah is on the ninth day (Thursday this year) when pilgrims gather in the plain of Arafah and Mount Arafah itself otherwise known as the Mount of Mercy to remember Allah (God) and how when Ibrahim and his son obeyed the order to sacrifice Ismail then the Mercy came down and Ismael ws spared thus ensuring among other things the divine prohibition on human sacrifice

Eid prayers are said on the morning of the tenth day and the Eid lasts then for 3-5 days.

The local Muslim community would like to extend greetings of goodwill, peace and security to all those in this area and beyond

on this occasion

Week of Prayer for World Peace 14 – 21 October

Posted on | October 21, 2012 | No Comments

Although it was a Christian initiative that led to the founding of the Week of Prayer for World Peace in 1974, it soon became an inter faith activity, and now welcomes everyone, of all faith traditions or none, to take part.   Its first Chairman, the late Dr Edward Carpenter, former Dean of Westminster, established the guiding principle of the Week in the words “The peace of the world must be prayed for by the faiths of the world”, and this is still the basis of its work today.
