Truce/ ceasefire for Gaza announced from 9pm Wednesday 21st November
Posted on | November 22, 2012 | No Comments
A truce/ceasefire negotiated by Egypt between the Hamas and Israeli governments came into force at 9pm Wednesday 21st November
Both sides agreed to cease hostilities and an easing and then lifting of the Gaza siege was also agreed.
This could lead to resumption of talks which must involve an ending of the illegal occupation and annexation of Jerusalem among many other key issues in order that peace and justice can be restored for Jerusalem and all the land around it
There will be a rally for Gaza at the HAYMARKET NORWICH MIDDAY-2PM SATURDAY 24TH NOVEMBER
ALL WELCOME TO COME ALONG
Gaza Under Attack Again
Posted on | November 16, 2012 | No Comments
Operation Pillar of Defense a carbon copy of Operation Cast Lead nearly 4 years ago which resulted in over 1,400 Palestinian deaths including many women and over 400 children as well as 13 Israeli deaths has been declared by the Israeli government.
The six year siege of Gaza has resulted in thousands of Palestinian deaths, untold destruction, poverty and misery for the one and a half million Palestinians who live there. It has brought no peace for Israelis either.
An Egyptian brokered truce had been holding until it was broken first by Israeli attacks on Gaza which were followed by Hamas rocket fire and then the assassination of senior Hamas leader Ahmad Jabari
Many people believe that the current operation which may include military incursions into Gaza by ground forces, like with its predecessor Operation Cast lead, is timed to demonstrate Israeli military superiority prior to the election in Israel in January next year.
Palestinians have vowed to resist by all legitimate means possible
NPC&PC does not want deaths or injuries on any side and believes that peace and peace making are the only solution and that this necessitates among other things granting the Palestinians their legitimate rights, their land and an end to the illegal occupation.
Peace in the entire region and in the world as a whole requires peace in the Holy city of Jerusalem and all the land around it as has been achieved in the past
peace is not unrealistic peace is achievable

We Are Norwich

We are Norwich plan family friendly celebration of multiculturalism in Chapelfield Gardens on Saturday 10th November
We are Norwich – a rainbow coalition of faith groups, trade unions, political parties and community organisations will hold a peaceful, family friendly but determined demonstration against the visit of the English Defence League to Norwich on Saturday 10th November. This broad coalition, which has the support of over 25 organisations (some of which are listed below), all the church leaders in Norwich and the Chapelfield Mosque says the EDL is a violent fascist organisation with clear links to other far right groups across Europe. Speaking on behalf of the group, secretary Nick O’Brien said: “The EDL has held countless demonstrations across the country where they have rampaged through towns – attacking mosques, businesses and individuals. We are Norwich is determined to peacefully counter protest and hold a fantastic, family friendly celebration of multiculturalism in the city. This is what Norwich is about”.
We are Norwich plan to assemble in Chapelfield Gardens at 11am and will host a range of live perfomers and speakers – including Red Flags, Jonathan Williams and Acivilianinvention. People are encouraged to bring banners and community groups can bring stalls. There will be facepainting for children. There will be a march from the park to City Hall via the city centre sometime after midday

Silent and respectful meditation, a stand against extremism
Posted on | November 3, 2012 | No Comments
Very regretably this event has had to be cancelled owing to police advice that it might be targeted by the EDL as part of their visit to Norwich
The organisers would like to apologise for this and stress that this clearly underlines the extreme nature of the EDLthe purpose of whose visit is meant to be officially “to uphold freedom of speech”.
NIFL would like to say that this clearly seems to indicate the contrary
Text of original event below:
Norwich Interfaith Link invites people to join in a half hour of silent meditation and reflection at United Reformed Church Princes St 2.30-3pm Saturday 10th November inspired by the following statement:
As members of the Norwich Interfaith Link committee we seek to emphasise what unites us in our common humanity and uphold the equality and dignity of all. We regret that misunderstanding of religion has often in the past been a cause of division and conflict, and sadly there are still those who seek to create division between people of differing backgrounds and creeds. We meet here today to affirm in silent prayer and meditation the greater truth and unity that lies beyond the reach of words.
Peace Cycle 2012

| ANNOUNCING THE PEACE CYCLE 2012 |
The Peace Cycle is a unique bike ride and an exceptional opportunity to see the sights, learn the history, meet the people… and discover the truth about Palestine.
The Peace Cycle 2012 will take place between 7th and 19th November and will visit Nazareth, Jenin, Al-Fara, Nablus, Qalqilya, Bil’in, Ramallah, Bethlehem, Hebron and Jerusalem.
As always, we will cycle so that we cause no harm to the environment and can feel as close to the land as possible. Cycling also makes us visible, and we will be met by ordinary people as we pass through towns and villages. Where possible, we will stay with people in their homes so that we really get to know them and listen to their stories, while at the same time contributing financially to a struggling economy.
The Peace Cycle 2012 will be raising funds for the new Pediatric Cancer Unit at the Al Hussein Hospital in Beit Jala.
