Hiroshima Day

Posted on | July 21, 2012 | No Comments

Norfolk Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament is organising an event to mark the single greatest war crime of World War ll on August 6th 1947, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima followed very shortly afterwards by the bombing of Nagasaki which was maybe even more horrendous. To this day no apology has been given for either of these.

A gathering is being planned at the Peace Pillar in Chapelfield Park which commemorates these two events at 1pm on Monday 6th August. Traditionally this lasts about half an hour with readings and silence and everyone is invited to come along to support.

Afterwards some people may walk or process around the Pillar or park

Posted on | July 1, 2012 | No Comments

It is time again for a very interesting talk.  This one will be held in the Friends Meeting House in Upper Goat Lane, Norwich at 1pm on Friday 20th July 2012.

The talk will be given by Odai Alzoubi. Odai is currently completing a philosophy doctorate at the University of East Anglia (UEA). Odai was born in Damascus in 1981 and he has studied electrical engineering in Damascus University (1998-2004) and philosophy in Lebanese University (2003-2007).  Odai has written several articles for Open Democracy.  He totally supports the revolution and would like to give us some facts about the Syrian Revolution.

His articles in Open Democracy can be found on the following links:

Norwich Peace Camp & Peace Cycle event

Posted on | June 25, 2012 | No Comments

The 7th annual NPC&PC went ahead very successfully,

Many people attended, participated, engaged in dialogue and we hope benefitted and learnt from coming.

Nearly all last year’s members participated and there were some new ones as well.

Although this is primarily an awareness event we nevertheless also managed to raise £240 in donations for refreshments and other items and through the charity auction. This will go to St Martin’s Housing Trust for the homeless, Phoenix Mile Cross Children’s Project and the Gaza Trauma Clinic. In additon £200 were raised through sale of Palestinian olive oil and other related items all of which goes directly into the Palestinian economy and £180 from sale of Palestinian carved olive wood crafts by Laura Abraham of the International Peace Cycle which will go to a project in Bethlehem.

We would like to thank the Forum Trust and staff for making the venue available and assisting us so well, The Mayor of Norwich for attending yet again as well as both Norwich MPs and Rev Janet Wyer of St Peter Mancroft Church who also spoke to us after the Mayor, also Dr Ian Gibson for starting the Peace Cycle.

We would also like to thank all those who came to visit, donated and gave and hope that they found this unique event something that they will wish to remember

Next year’s event is currently booked for 22nd of June all day at the Forum again
