“Nepal in Need”.
Posted on | July 3, 2016 | No Comments
UNA Norwich are very pleased to welcome Dev Ghimire and Gyaljen Sherpa to talk about the charity “Nepal in Need”. Gyaljen is one of the founder members and will talk about how Nepal In Need helped the traumatised people of Nepal recover and rebuild from the two recent disasterous earth quakes. The charity organised and funded a four-man specialist surgical team to travel from the James Paget Hospital in Norfolk to a hospital in Kathmandu. They provided orthopedic surgery for those people most seriously injured in the earth quake.
The mission of Nepal In Need is to help the mountain people of Nepal with primary health care, education and the provision of basic utilities in order that they lead better, healthier and more enriched lives.
The talk is at 1pm in the Friends Meeting House on Friday 15th July. I hope to see you there.
best wishes,
Marguerite

Friends Meeting House. Upper Goat Lane, Norwich
Wednesday 15TH June, 7pm
All welcome – Admission Free
SPEAKER: CHRIS NINEHAM
Vice Chair, National Stop the War Coalition
The British government claims it will not tolerate indiscriminate violence committed by extremists. How then to explain the deafening silence from those same voices on the situation in Yemen? There Saudi Arabia, a regime that fits the definition of “extremist” if the term has any serious meaning, is leading a brutal military operation in which UK-supplied aircraft, bombs and missiles are playing a major role. “Torture: What is it Good For?”.
Posted on | June 8, 2016 | No Comments
Dear Friends,
It is time again to circulate information about the forthcoming UNA talk in the Friends Meeting House at 1pm on Friday 17th June. This month our speaker will be Dr Wendy McMahon – Senior Lecturer in American Studies at UEA.
She will talk on Human Rights – specifically on Torture. The title of the talk is “Torture: What is it Good For?”. The talk will focus on the contemporary debate about whether or not torture can ever be justified in the name of national security and global peace. Dr McMahon will address the question of whether there is any place for torture in a liberal democracy as well as the relationship between torture, the law and American culture.
Do try and attend this topical and informative talk on Friday 17 June.
Best wishes,
Marguerite Finn
Vice Chair UNA (Norwich & District)

Conscientious Objection Day 15th May
An Exhibition, celebrating that 100 years ago, conscientious objection to military service was recognised as a human right, will be displayed in the Friends Meeting House from the 15th May until the end of the month.
Come on the day itself, at 12.15pm and view the local archive material, posters and photographs – witnessing the hardships so many suffered for their pacifist principles.
Then join us at 1pm for a bring & share picnic beside the Peace Pillar in Chapelfield Gardens.
